Dyeing

Charaka has been producing naturally dyed handloom fabrics since its humble begining. The advantage of being in the western ghats region is the availability of rich forest resources that can be used to extract dyes. Areca is the main cash crop that is grown extensively here. the by product of the arecanut is used to obtain beutiful shades of brown with different mordants. pomegranate, jackwood, madder root, are some of the other dye materials that are used to get shades of yellow and reds.

After many experiments charaka has mastered the natural indigo vat process and a regular production is done.
